3- Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU's) internships:

The National Science Foundation (NSF) funds many summer internships at research universities throughout the country.  These internships pay typically $4000 plus room and board and travel for a period of 6-8 weeks.  These are pretigious internships that are a tremendous bonus for students wanting to go on to grad school or even enter the job mearket after graduation.  Every summer, several Ship Physics majors are REU recipients.

To browse the available REU's go to the NSF's REU site: http://www.nsf.gov/crssprgm/reu/reu_search.cfm
