Philanthropy
Turkey Bowl
As a Theta Xi chapter tradition, the Turkey Bowl football game takes place every fall in November at Shippensburg University. Many SU campus groups take part in the game including sororities, sports teams, and club sports. Through donations, admission costs, snack bar sales, and t-shirt sales, our chapter raises funds that benefit our international philanthropy, The Alpha Phi foundation.

Daffodil Days
Daffodil Days raises funds for the American Cancer Society while bringing thousands of bright yellow flowers to the Shippensburg area for the first week of spring. Funds raised support local services and programs for cancer patients and their families. The Shippensburg Alpha Phis set up two tables (one at Old Main and one inside of the Cumberland Union Building) and spend the day selling the flowers to students, faculty, staff, and visitors to campus. From the total funds raised by Alpha Phi and other area organizations that day, 75% will stay within Cumberland County to help cancer patients and families in the region.
The Alpha Phi Foundation
Created in 1957, the Alpha Phi Foundation was the first such foundation for a women's Greek organization and is a means to channel the commitment and vision to put the good will, hard work, and belief in Alpha Phi to work in powerful ways. Through the Foundation, Alpha Phi has reached out to increasing numbers of people, offering opportunities to learn, lead, and live healthier lives. The Foundation divides its benefits among four main areas: Cardiac aid, scholarships and emergency undergraduate aid, The Forget-Me-Not Fund, and educational grants to the fraternities.

Cardiac Care
For more than 50 years, Alpha Phi has focused on heart disease and cardiac care as philanthropic priorities. More recently, helping support research into the causes and treatment of heart disease in women has been a special interest of the Alpha Phi Foundation. Grants from the Foundation enable the medical profession to better understand gender differences in cardiac care and help countless health care professionals increase their awareness of and expertise in heart disease prevention and treatment. Because it supports these cardiac care initiatives, the Alpha Phi foundation can help millions of people live longer, richer lives.
Scholarships
A deep belief in education for women brought our ten founders together more than 125 years ago. Today, the legacy of that belief lives on through the Foundation's support of teaching and learning. Alpha Phi believes learning should last a lifetime, and our commitment to that belief is carried out through scholarships available to women at all stages of their lives. The Foundation funds thousands of dollars in scholarships to assist talented undergraduate and graduate students each year, and nontraditional grants are available to Alpha Phi women who need additional training for certification, career advancement, or a return to the workforce.
The Forget-Me-Not Fund
Women have always counted on their Alpha Phi sisters to help them through times of need-and now through special funding, they can count on the Alpha Phi Foundation for financial help, too. The Forget-Me-Not Fund, established in 1979, provides assistance to Alpha Phi alumnae who are facing catastrophic heath problems, natural disasters, or other serious crises. The Collegiate counterpart to the Forget-Me-Not fund, the Emergency Aid Fund, was established in 1982 and is designed to keep students in school when a financial crisis hits. It offers up to $1,000 to aid any undergraduate member facing an interruption of her education because of an unforeseen financial crisis. Foundation support gives Alpha Phis in need the greatest gift of all: the knowledge that their sisters care and are always there to help.
Educational Grants
Alpha Phi is a bridge, connecting sisters further into the future than any of us can see. A vital part of that bridge is assuring that members, both collegians and alumnae, have access to the most forward-looking educational programming available. So that each women can gain from the expertise and experience of her sisters, Alpha Phi serves an effective network for the collective knowledge of its members. The Alpha Phi Foundation supports the Fraternity's mission to be the premier developer of women by funding cutting-edge programs and training on timely issues for every stage of life. Members not only become better leaders in their chapters and communities, but Foundation-supported educational programming also informs them about pressing issues facing the world today. The Foundation funds educational programming in the areas of alcohol and AIDS awareness, women's health and safety, and other WatchCare programs developed for Alpha Phi collegiate chapters. The Foundation also funds the educational training sessions at Convention and Leadership Conferences that help officers develop the skills necessary to assume strong leadership roles within their chapters, as well as in the future. Participants in Convention and Leadership Conferences learn new insights into building effective teams and improving relationships, which they, in turn, use to enhance their chapters.
