Alumni Association History
The Alumni Association Purpose
To foster a strong relationship between the university and alumni in order to promote the support, growth, and perpetuation of the university community.
The Alumni Association Mission
To expand alumni and university friendship, engage alumni, and advocate the common interest of alumni.
Alumni Association Membership
All graduates of Shippensburg University or its predecessors are members of the Alumni Association. The Association is a non-dues paying association.
The Alumni Board of Directors Mission
To
efficiently coordinate resources, evaluate programs, oversee planning, and promote the common successes of alumni and Shippensburg University.
Governance
The Board of Directors establishes Alumni Association policy. There are 22 voting members each serving four year terms. Six are elected each year by the Board of Directors. There are three elected officers: President, Immediate Past President, and President-elect. The Executive Director of University Relations serves as Executive Director, Secretary/Treasurer. The President of the University is an ex officio non-voting member.
Role of the Board Member
The Alumni Association Board of Directors advises on policy and programs, provides feedback and offers suggestions to the university administration. Ongoing work includes:
* Recommending members for leadership positions * Assisting in the selection of award recipients * Planning special local and regional events * Supporting Student Alumni Ambassador and Career Connections * Providing policy advice for the Alumni Association organization structure * Supporting legislative efforts * Participating on ad-hoc and standing committees* Assisting with communication tools and methods
Funding
Funding is provided by the general operation budget of the university and the SU Foundation.
Staff
The University Relations staff report to the university administration and responds to the recommendations of the Board of Directors and its committees. Currently the staff is comprised of an executive director, an assistant director for alumni services and regional events, an assistant director for career services, two clerical staff, one part-time graduate student, and three part-time undergraduate students.
