The ‘Mighty’ Mike McGee’s “stand up poetry” has toured over 80,000 miles in North America. He has won the San Francisco Grand Slam Final, San Jose Grand Slam Final, and the 2003 National Poetry Slam Individual Grand Slam Championship. He has also featured on Russell Simmons presents HBO’s Def Poetry.
He has competed in many celebrated poetry slams, including Chicago’s Green Mill Slam and at NYC’s Nuyorican Poets Café. Mike McGee and T.O.F.U. (Tons of Fun University-his group) have appeared at the Vancouver Folk Music Festival.
Mike does at least half his best to marry humor with sincerity, and observation with comedy. He grabs the audience, entertains them, and lets them into his world, all while expressing some of his deepest feelings. He does this while making people laugh at him, themselves and any other animals in the room. If he’s not making you laugh, he’s making you think.
