The Biology Department
at Shippensburg University offers opportunities for students to explore
a variety of areas of within the biological sciences. Undergraduate
concentrations in Biotechnology, Ecology and Environmental
Biology, Health Professions, Medical Technology, and Secondary Education allow
students to develop skills specific to their interests and career
choices. The biology program combines classroom, laboratory, and field
studies to provide a comprehensive education. Students take a
series of required courses to gain a strong foundation in life
sciences, elective courses to specialize in a particular area, and
general education courses to broaden their education. The faculty
possess the expertise to guide students in their preparation for
careers or further study at the professional/graduate level.
Small class sizes provide students with numerous opportunities to
receive individual attention from highly qualified professors.Opportunities are available for students to perform internships and/or
conduct scientific research under the supervision of faculty members.
Shippensburg's close proximity to federal and state research labs,
state forests and parks, and medical institutions allows for unique
class visits and research/internship opportunities. As a charter member
of the Marine Science Consortium, Shippensburg University — in
cooperation with other member colleges and universities — offers a
variety of oceanographic study and research opportunities at Wallops
Island, Virginia. Several clubs within the Biology Deparment (Biology,
Ecology, and Health Sciences Clubs , Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor
Society) provide a varieity of social and educational activities for
students. We also have a small, active graduate program that reflects
the diversity of interests of our faculty. We encourage you to browse
