3-week course, Summer Session II: June 1 to June 19, 2009
Professor: Dr. Pablo Delis, Biology Department, Shippensburg University
Course Information:
Ecology is the scientific study of the interactions among living
organisms, and between organisms and their environments. We will
explore basic ecological patterns and processes that affect populations,
communities, and ecosystems, and apply the principles of ecology
to understanding selected global and local environmental problems.
Laboratory and field sessions will emphasize scientific inquiry
as well as ecological principles and techniques. Specific objectives
for the course include:
1. principles of scientific inquiry in field ecology, sampling
and taxonomic procedures
2. collection and interpretation of ecological data and use statistical
methods
3. present scientific data in figures and graphs and write a scientific
paper
4. analyze and draw inferences from news and published studies
