Delta Nu Alpha Scholarship

Ashley Hess, a senior Supply Chain Management major, has received The Delta Nu Alpha Foundation Scholarship.Scholarships are based upon the student’s demonstrated scholastic achievement, leadership ability, experience, and career commitment. Ashley will be attending the annual Delta Nu Alpha conference in September.

Premier Beta Gamma Sigma Chapter Award

Shippensburg University Receives Premier Beta Gamma Sigma Chapter Award. The Shippensburg University collegiate chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma has once again qualified to participate in the 2005 Beta Gamma Sigma Scholarship Program by being named a Premier Chapter for its superior level of membership acceptance and promotional activities in the 2004-2005 academic year. Each recognized Premier Chapter is eligible to award a $1,000 BGS Scholarship to a deserving student for study in the 2005-2006 academic year. (details)

RISE 2005

The SU Investment Management Program (IMP) recently took home a fourth-place award in the undergraduate division of the growth-style equity portfolio at the 2005 Redefining Investment Strategy Education (RISE) symposium held March 30-April 1 at the University of Dayton, Ohio. The IMP had return of 13.92% in 2004 versus 10.88% for the S&P 500. On a risk-adjusted basis (annual return / monthly standard deviation), the IMP reported a 2004 return of 5.19% versus 3.96% for the S&P 500. In 2004, the IMP also took fourth place in this category.

RISE is a student investment strategy symposium hosted by University of Dayton. Modeled after the World Economic Forum, RISE connects investment students and faculty with Wall Street professional in interactive discussions. More than 1,000 students and faculty from 132 colleges and universities, representing six countries, attended this year’s symposium. About a third entered the portfolio competition, in which students showcased their success in the areas of growth, value, blend, alternative and fixed-income styles of management. The top portfolio teams were identified by the portfolio’s twelve-month risk-adjusted returns.

IMP was created in 1995 with the intention of providing students with an educational experience in managing a real dollar portfolio. The portfolio is currently valued at over $71,000 in assets. For further information on IMP, visit their web site at http://www.ship.edu/~imp.

CREDC Central PA College Venture Challenge

HARRISBURG (April 29, 2005) – The Capital Region Economic Development Corporation (CREDC) held the final presentations Wednesday and announced the winners of the Central PA College Venture Challenge, a business plan competition for regional college students.

Third Prize: Romp Around, a program that will aid inactive and overweight children in achieving a healthier lifestyle. Team members included Shippensburg students Amy Polmounter, Jennifer Grimes and Lisa Watson. The team and the university each received $250. (details)

SIFE Team Wins Regional Competition

The Shippensburg University Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) Team (formed in January, 2005) returned to Shippensburg as winners after participating in the Philadelphia SIFE USA Regional Competition on March 28, 2006. The event was one of 17 SIFE USA Regional Competitions being held across the United States in March and April. (details)
