This chapter discusses the construction of a broad transnational
identity by a group of pastoralists in Sudan.
These Bedouin have become increasingly aware of their historical and
cultural links to other Bedouin in several
countries, and are trying to use these ties in ways that are
politically and economically beneficial. Important
points include: the ways in which their economy has changed, the
importance of warfare in Eritrea and Sudan,
and the reasons for their acceptance as kin by the Bani Rashid in Saudi
Arabia.
