RESUMES

Quick Resume Tips
Limit the resume to one or two pages (consider the audience that will be reading your resume).
Consistency and accuracy throughout your resume is essential.
- Avoid typographical/grammatical errors
- Formatting throughout the resume should be consistent
Do NOT use resume templates or wizards.
- They’re inconsistent.
- They don’t like change. So, it’s difficult to make updates to your resume.
- They don’t always include headings that “work for you”.
- Your resume will look like many others; it won’t “stand out in a crowd”.
Formatting your resume:
- Margins: 1 inch margins are ideal, but they can range from ½ inch – 1 inch.
- Font size/style: Font size should range between 10 – 12 points.
- Paper: Print your resume on high quality paper (white, cream, or grey).
- Printer: Use a laser printer.

Important information regarding the different sections of your resume:
- Objective: Short and concise; to the point.
- Education: Include only post-high school experience. High school is ancient history; don’t include it.
Items to avoid in your resume:
- Abbreviations
- Underlining/Italics
- Graphics
- Personal information (gender, age, sexual orientation, political affiliation, religion, marital status, children, etc.)
Referencesshould always be listed on a separate sheet.
