KSRA , an affiliate of the International Reading Association (IRA), is a state-wide organization in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania comprised of individuals who are engaged in reading instruction, literacy development, and the encouragement of lifelong reading habits. KSRA believes in the importance of collaborating with other organizations in achieving its purposes and goals. Mission: to promote literacy through reading, provide instructional leadership, support professional development and advocate literacy issues.
How to Join: The student chapter (KSRA-SU) is open to undergraduate and graduate education majors, especially reading minors and graduate reading students. Joining KSRA includes a membership in a local council. The Franklin County Reading Council meets to plan literacy experiences for teachers and pre-service teachers. A student chapter sponsors literacy experiences for local elementary children in after school activities. ($15.00 yearly membership). A membership form is available from Dr. Baynum or by visiting the KSRA website. Please return the membership form and check to Dr. Baynum to receive the student membership rate.
