Welcome to the Department of Communication/Journalism

digitalOur primary mission is to prepare well-rounded graduates to be future professionals in the converging fields of mass media.

Our graduate program in Communications Studies focuses on those planning to enhance careers in communications and public relations. The program also provides individuals with a strong base for pursuing doctoral-level study.

Alumni of the Year

Going global! Eduardo Mack (left, Class of 1987), was one of two internationally-based alumni honored in 2008 for outstanding achievement by the department. John Morgan (class of 1986) was the other honoree.

The Slate and radio station WSYC-FM held their 50th anniversary celebration in April 2007. The festivities brought together current and former staff members for a weekend of sharing and networking.

SCHEDULE

CLEAN-UP

Students who do not schedule during their appointment time, or who would like to adjust their course selections for spring, will have an opportunity to schedule during schedule clean-up on November 13th and 14th from 8-4 each day. Students should check the course listings at info.ship.edu for the most up-to-date listing of available courses. UG students interested in taking a course during the online Winter Term can schedule these classes through the Office of Extended Studies website (not via the SIS) at http://www.ship.edu/extended/

online/index.html.

WELCOME BACK, PROFESSOR GARRIS!

After a one-year leave of absence to complete her PhD coursework and residency requirements at Penn State University, Prof. Kim Garris will be back on campus this fall. Congratulations to Prof. Garris for achieving this milestone and reaching PhD candidacy status!! Please stop by and congratulate her this August! Prof. Garris plans to complete her PhD dissertation this academic year and graduate from PSU in 2009. Go Kim!
