Staff

The University Counseling Center professional staff includes full-time psychologists and counselors, a consulting psychiatrist, post-graduate and masters-level trainees, and undergraduate peer educators. Clerical support is provided by a full-time office manager and a carefully screened, professional student worker.

Philip W. Henry

After receiving his B. S. in Psychology and Sociology from Slippery Rock State College, Philip worked for four years in community development and rural mental health programs along the Gulf Coast of Alabama. Subsequently he earned an M. A. in Clinical Psychology from Western Kentucky University and his doctorate in Marriage and Family Therapy from Purdue University. After several years in corporate psychiatric healthcare and private practice management Philip began his university teaching career at Our Lady of Holy Cross College in New Orleans and continued with Chapman University at their Arizona campuses. Along the way he continued his involvement in community development, agency management and clinical practice. His specialties include sex therapy, couples counseling, family of origin reorganization and fathering.

Tomoko Kudo Grabosky

Tomoko received her B. A. in Psychology from the State University of New York at Oswego and both her Ph.D. and M. S. in Counselor Education from Syracuse University. She is a Nationally Certified Counselor and has special interests in multicultural counseling, cultural adjustment, identity development, international education, and existential psychology. Originally from Japan, Tomoko came to the United States initially to study journalism and communication; however, she became much more interested in learning about culture and psychology since her own cross-cultural experiences had a tremendous impact on her personal development. Over the last ten years, Tomoko has worked as a counselor in a variety of settings, academic advising, and English as a Second Language programs. Tomoko enjoys cultural diversity, arts, and nature.

Michelle Olexa

Michelle received a B. A. in Psychology Speech, Communications, and Theater Arts from Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, PA; a Master's Degree in Social and Personality Psychology from John Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland; and her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Albany, State University of New York. She did her Doctoral Internship at the University of Maine Counseling Center, where she continued to work for four years post-internship as a Clinical Staff Member and Coordinator of Prevention and Education Programming. Michelle's interest in psychology derives from a deep appreciation and respect for the potential of the human mind and the resilience of the human spirit. Areas of particular interest in her work with clients include stress and coping, gender identity and sexual orientation, all manner of identity and interpersonal issues (e.g. relationship patterns, career/academic goal setting, social roles), cognitive and interpersonal therapy, and anxiety disorders. Outside academics and work Michelle enjoys movies, music, dancing, visiting with friends and family, gardening, knitting, and reading horror fiction. She lives in Carlisle with her husband and two dogs.

Lauren Floroff

Lauren is working towards her graduate degree in Community Counseling. She received her B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Sociology at Shippensburg. She has been involved in research regarding adolescent perceptions of their parent's discipline techniques, which was presented at EPA in March. This summer she has been busy working at the Carrier Clinic in NJ as a residential counselor, helping adolescent females that have behavioral and substance abuse problems. Lauren enjoys spending time with friends and family and is excited to be pursuing her degree.

Nitarah Satyamurthy

Nitarah graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in May 2004 earning a B.A. in Psychology with minors in Sociology and Biology. She is currently working towards a M.S. in College Counseling. Nitarah has enjoyed teaching and doing research at a small liberal arts college for the last four years. In her free time, she enjoys running, reading and watching reality television.

Kimberly Doughty

Kimberly recently graduated from Shippensburg University earning her B.S. in Criminal Justice with a minor in Psychology. She is pursuing her M.S. in Mental Health Counseling. Currently, Kimberly works at the Children's Aide Society in Chambersburg, PA, helping juvenile delinquents and assisting with the foster care and adoption program. She enjoys watching Sportscenter and law shows (CSI, Law & Order, etc.). Other interests include cooking, sports, reading, music and poetry.

Angela Winter

Angela received her BA from Shippensburg University in psychology with a minor in art and is currently pursuing a MS in community counseling. In addition to her work at the Counseling Center, she also enjoys working at a local treatment center in both the acute psychiatric unit as an allied therapist and the chemical dependency unit as a counselor aide. Some of her free time interests include hiking with her dog, cooking, yoga/meditation, reading, art, music, and sports.

Phillip Carbaugh

Phillip completed his undergraduate work at the University of New Mexico and is currently working towards a M.S. in Mental Health Counseling. Phillip also enjoys working with a progressive community clinic in Chambersburg, PA. In his free time he likes playing outdoors.

Erica Hardy

Erica received her degree in Medical Transcription from Hagerstown Business College. She spent fourteen years working as an A/R, A/P, and billing clerk at a nursing home in Carlisle, PA. Erica is excited about her position at the Counseling Center and the opportunity to be employed with the university. In her free time she enjoys spending time at her new home and her hobbies and interests include exercising, music, "visiting" casinos, watching NASCAR and the Washington Redskins, and sharing all of the above with her family and boyfriend. Erica currently lives in Shippensburg with her cat, Abigail.
