Continuing Education - Extended Studies - The mission of the Office of Extended Studies is to develop and offer quality credit and non-credit courses that meet temporary educational and training needs of the region. Currently the Department of Counseling offers a Post-Master's Certificate of Advanced Studies in Counseling, a Post-Master's Certificate in Couples, Marital and Family Therapy, and a Post-Master's Certificate in Adlerian Counseling. CSP Research Poster Session - Students in the College Student Personnel track complete a required research project for the Advanced Research Seminar course. In the spring, students from this Research course “showcase” their final research projects at the Annual Research Expo. Students prepare a poster session, spend about 10 minutes describing their studies, and then respond to questions about their projects.
Graduate Certificate in Adlerian Studies (Post-Bachelor's Certificate) - Alfred Adler’s contributions to the field are based on the need to understand individuals within their social context. Mutual respect, social equality, holism, cooperation, lifestyle, purposive behavior, goal orientation, encouragement, family constellation, and social interest, are just some of the principles. Learn how the principles and methods of Adlerian Psychology can be used in
counseling, psychology, education, administration, business, criminal
justice,and social work.

Graduate Certificate in Couples and Family Therapy (Post-Master's Certificate) - This is a two-year program designed to provide specialized training in couples and family therapy for working mental health professionals. The program embodies an integrated, systemic perspective that focuses on the relationships between people within the family and on their relationships with the larger community. The program is concerned with the problems that arise out of these relationships as well as the positive resources that they can provide. Rural Mental Health Institute - The Rural Mental Health Institute is held each spring at the university, providing counselors in the community with an entire day of training. CEUs and ACT 48 Hours are provided to participants along with lunch. Announcements and registration forms will be sent via U.S. mail to previous attendees and current site supervisors.The next Institute is scheduled for May 1, 2009.
Rural School Counseling Institute - The School Counseling track of the Department of Counseling is excited to invite you to our annual institute for school counselors. We welcome you to participate in two timely presentations related to school counselor identity

School Counselor Panel - The School Counselor Panel is the central event in the Department of Counseling and College Student Personnel for celebrating National School Counselor Week. Seasoned school counselors who have graduated from our program are invited to speak about their preparation, the process of attaining jobs, their identity and roles as school counselors. These counselors also provide practical wisdon for upcoming professionals.
National School Counselor week is typically held the second week of February and the event is usually held on Thursday of that very week. As the time approaches, more information may be obtained on this website.
