The History of the CUMBERLAND Yearbook at Shippensburg University

The CUMBERLAND Yearbook, Shippensburg University's award winning yearbook, was founded in 1917. With a goal of excellence and quality abounding from each staff, the yearbook has been able to produce 84 editions, with the 85th coming along quite nicely this year.

Since its humble beginnings in Old Main, the CUMBERLAND has bounced around campus, until it found a more permanent home in the Cumberland Union Building in 1992. The large office houses several computers, a flat-bed scanner, all of the photography equipment, as well as space for small meetings and an extensive library of the yearbooks of the past.

The CUMBERLAND currently works with two outside companies, Herff Jones and DaVor. Herff Jones is the yearbooks printer, as well as technical advisor. The Yearbook has worked with Herff for several years and continues to work well with the company. DaVor, the yearbooks longtime photography company, assists with such sections of the book as Seniors, Greeks and Organizations, as well as candids for various sections of the book.

As the CUMBERLAND continues to grow technologically, it also grows in size of staff members. The 2002 CUMBERLAND staff is currently one of the largest in the history of the book. With such great enthusiasm, the book continues to only get better each year.

CUMBERLAND Yearbook.com was started in 1997, changing its design, quality and usefulness many times since then. The web site provides contact information, listings of editors, news, upcoming events, plus much more.

The CUMBERLAND Yearbook continues to grow as it moves with ease into the 21st century. Through continued support from the administrators, faculty and students at Shippensburg University, the CUMBERLAND will continue to achieve its ultimate goal of providing the best yearbook possible for years to come.
