Problems

  • Autobiography due on September 6. (This is not a class day!)
    • Details. Your first assignment is to send me by e-mail an mathematical autobiography. You are to introduce your mathematical self to me. Tell me about the courses you have taken, what your favorites were, what you find hardest. Explain what your mathematical interests are, and what you plan to do after graduation. Formulate at least three questions about the history of mathematics (based on either your personal experience or on your reading from B&G) that you hope to answer in this course. Be creative with your responses, and feel free to include more than just the simple answers to the question prompts above. Send your response by Monday, September 6. The e-mail should be sent to deensl@ship.edu with subject heading, "About <<Your name here>>."
  • Presentation sign-up by September 2.
    • On a sheet of paper, submit a list of people for your group along with three chapters (from Chapters 2 through 13 of the B & G book) your group would like to present. See the list of chapters for more information. I will assign chapters based on this list and post the schedule in the table above by September 3.
    • See the guidelines for details on presentations.

Papers

  • Midterm paper is due on October 25. See the guidelines for details.
