April 28, 2000
Friday’s
meeting focused on a discussion regarding the implementation of the DOMA LSTA
grant. Joining us for the meeting was
Stephanie Steely, Technical Services Librarian at Kutztown. Participating via the phone bridge were
various librarians and directors from Bloomsburg, California, Cheyney, Clarion,
East Stroudsburg, Indiana, Lock Haven, Mansfield, Millersville, Slippery Rock
and West Chester, as well as Tom Briggs (Systems Programmer/Shippensburg), Eric
Zeglen (KLNC Coordinator) and Joan Chapa (Marcive Sales representative).
As
part of the grant funding, a software program is to be developed by Tom Briggs
to receive one file from Marcive with data for all DOMA depositories. This file
will then be broken into individual files for each of the ten libraries. Most of the discussion centered on concerns
from existing Marcive customers. These
libraries have taken the “plain vanilla” Marcive product and through
adaptations by Marcive have “tweaked” it to become a very customized product,
well suited to their individual libraries.
After much discussion, including cost issues, maintenance of program,
etc. it was agreed that Tom Briggs would be contracted to write a program to
see if the one file project is feasible.
DOMA will meet in the fall to make final decision about implementation.
A
corollary to the LSTA grant was to work on collaborative collection development
for SSHE documents collections. It was
agreed that Geraldine Benson (Millersville) and Mary Anne Burns Duffy (West
Chester) would develop a list to
facilitate discussion on this topic and that this topic would be a yearly
agenda item at our DOMA meetings.
Respectfully
submitted,
Mary
