About the Ensembles:

The Shippensburg University Woodwind Ensembles are open to all competent woodwind players. No audition is required, and about 50 students participate every semester. Each ensemble sets its own rehearsal schedule and meets one hour-fifteen minutes per week. The large groups--flute choir, clarinet choir, and saxophone ensemble--are rehearsed by the faculty director. Smaller ensembles such as trios, quartets, and the woodwind quintet, rehearse on their own with faculty coaching as needed.

The Woodwind Ensembles perform a wide variety of music from all eras and of all types. They appear in formal recitals each semester, provide entertainment for local functions, and take a recruiting/concert tour every second year. Recent trips have included performances in southern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York City, and Toronto.

For more information about the Woodwind Ensembles, please call the director at 717-477-1760 or e-mail him at dwritz@ship.edu.
