The Environmental
Steering Committee is pleased to announce SU's first Earth Day speaker,
Dr. George Woodwell, founder, director emeritus, and senior scientist
at the Woods Hole
Research Center. Dr. Woodwell will be speaking about the urgent
issue of climate change in his talk entitled “Awkward Facts about
Climate Change: Laissez Faire Hell or Garden of Eden?” He will be
speaking on Thursday April 24 at 3:30 pm in Rowland Hall 200. Everyone
is invited to attend.
In addition to founding the internationally-known Woods Hole Research
Center, Dr. Woodwell was a founding trustee and is vice chairman of the
board of the Natural Resources Defense Council. He is a founding
trustee of the World Resources Institute and the Environmental Defense
Fund, and is a former chairman of the board of trustees and a current
member of the National Council of the World Wildlife Fund. He is a
member of the National Academy of Sciences and a fellow of the American
Academy of Arts and Sciences.
