Renovations of Dauphin Humanities Center

DGS 412-52

With this project the university will be renovating the interior of the building and adding a small addition and minor exterior improvements as well.  The work will include:

  • remodeling all interior spaces in Dauphin including the two large lecture halls that are part of Dauphin but are on the MCT side of the entry
  • adding an addition on the quad side that will provide expanded space for a lounge area, a suite of offices for department chairs and secretaries and for relocating the Dean of Arts and Sciences offices from Old Main
  • improving compliance with American with Disabilities Act in lecture rooms, elevator, and toilet rooms as well as addressing handicapped access and egress to the building and all occupied spaces.
  • remodeling of all bathroom finishes and fixtures
  • replacing the following building systems: heating, air conditioning, electrical, data, telephone, lights, fire alarm, clocks, windows, doors
  • renovating ceilings, selected walls and floors, all corridor and stair finishes

The exterior area around the Dauphin Humanities Center will be affected during this project. The addition will be on the quad side and just to the left of the entrance as you enter the building. A temporary cover will be built over this entrance as protection during the nearby construction of the three story addition. The area around the building will be fenced off as shown on the following sketch. The handicapped parking area on the south side will be closed and relocated to other areas. Care has been taken in the planning process to minimize the impact on pedestrian access around the site. Work is slated for the common lobby areas between DHC and MCT but will be scheduled to minimize disruption to students. The one set of stairs still in use by students in MCT will remain open during construction.
