Shippensburg University What is GIS? Programs Facilities Jobs Data Contact

We renovated Shearer Hall and can now boast two new excellent laboratory spaces. We use our new GIS Lab to support classroom instruction and lab work, and we use our Ford Lab to support student research projects. Each lab holds 21 workstations (42 total) that are fully networked (1GB) and support the lastest in GIS, GPS, Remote Sensing, and geocomputational software.

Shippensburg University holds a univeristy-wide site license for ESRI ArcGIS/ArcInfo 9.x (with many extensions) and licenses for ERDAS Imagine software (for aerial photograph and satellite image processing). Also, we just purchased and field tested 12 new field computers and GPS receivers (Trimble XM and XH models) as well as the lastest in GPS planning and post-processing software.

Last but not least, we also have a Graduate Student Research lab, where graduate students and exceptional undergraduate students work with faculty mentors on research projects (e.g., NSF, NASA, and SeaGrant).
