Honors Freshmen Orientation

pic "As an incoming freshman, I found the mentor program very helpful. It was great making friends in the Honors Program so later when I saw them in class, I had people to talk to! The Mentor Program allowed me to make friends with great people...I am excited I was able to take part in it."

Congratulations on your admission to the Shippensburg University Honors Program! Listed below are many of the freshmen orientation events that you will participate in. Explore the links on the left to learn more about the program.

Mentor Program

After students are admitted to the Honors Program, upper-class Honors students are assigned as their mentors.  Mentors provide valuable academic and social assistance to incoming students.  They contact the new students during the summer and meet with them after they arrive on campus to help orient them to the university and especially to the Honors Program.  Mentors will also host a hike, scavenger hunt, and a picnic for incoming Honors students.

Summer Honors Orientation Luncheon

Dr. William Ruud, University President, and Dr. Kim Klein, Honors Program Director, host a welcome luncheon for incoming Honors students and their parents each June.

Freshmen Orientation Program

To help incoming Honors students learn about the Honors Program and the opportunities that the Program offers to enhance their undergraduate education, new Honors students participate inorientation sessions in the fall semester.  Each session lasts approximately 45 minutes, and dinner is included.  The orientation sessions are presented by experienced students, faculty, and administrators.

See the calendar of events for more information.

Freshmen Orientation Participation Policy

To remain in good standing in the Honors Program, Honors freshmen are required to attend all Freshmen Orientation Program sessions. Students who cannot attend a session are responsible for contacting the Honors Director before the session to make arrangements to obtain the information that they will miss. Students who do not participate in the orientation sessions will forfeit their Honors priority scheduling privileges and may be dismissed from the program.
