Q: Why should a student enroll in the Honors Program?

Challenging and unique courses, exciting leadership and service opportunities like teaching workshops for middle school students, meeting important guest speakers who come to campus, and traveling to New York, Washington, D.C., or even Rome!

Q: How many students participate in the Honors Program at Shippensburg?

Approximately 175 students participate in the Honors Program.

Q: Can a student in any major participate in the Honors Program?

Yes.  Current Honors students are pursuing majors in the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Business, and the College of Education and Human Services.  Their majors include elementary and secondary education, chemistry, physics, English, history, math, and finance.

Q: Can transfer students participate in the Honors Program?

Transfer students can apply for the 12-credit upper-division portion of the university's Honors Program.

Q: What are the advantages of taking Honors courses?

The primary advantage of Honors courses over regular general education courses is the opportunity to learn and interact in a smaller, less formal class setting.  All Honors courses are limited to 20-25 students, which allows greater opportunities for student participation and active learning.

Q: Are Honors courses more difficult than regular courses?

Not necessarily.  However, they do place more responsibility on students to take charge of their learning and usually require more class preparation and participation.

Q: How can I receive an application for the Honors program?

You can print an application and send it in after you have been accepted to the university.
