Content Release and Tracking Student Progress: An Introduction

Although this seems like a very long name we are going to be looking at three separate features in Blackboard that are related to each other.

Review Status

The Review Status tool allows each student to track their own progress and concurrently allows instructors to track student’s progress of specific content items. Be aware that only the last entry by students is recorded, the record of previous status is erased. Look at the Blackboard Created Tutorial in this section to see the Review Status feature in action.

Adaptive Release

This feature allows instructors to release content based on a set criteria. There are two types of Adaptive Release, Basic and Advanced. Below are key points to remember when using the Adaptive Release feature.

  1. Planning is an important key to using adaptive release
  2. Displays content to students based on a set of rules.
  3. Rules consist of criteria (availability, date/time, individual users and user groups, scores/attempts on any Gradebook item, review status
  4.  Adaptive Release options:
    • Basic – one rule per item
    •  Advanced – multiple rules per item however, only one date and membership criteria can be used
    • User Progress – View details of course items (reviewed/not reviewed, visible/not visible)
    •  Item availability set on the Add item page supersedes Adaptive release rules
