It is important to understand that Blackboard 7.x is designed as a course management system, not as a primary authoring tool.

Do not build all of your content in Blackboard 7.x itself. Use tools such as Microsoft Word or PowerPoint designed specifically for the authoring of content and upload that content into Blackboard 7.x for delivery.

Once an item or area is deleted from the Blackboard Course Shell it CANNOT be recovered.

Course Content

Content Areas

In Blackboard, the content item is the basic building block of your course. The standard links in the content areas are Course Information, Course Documents, Assignements and External Links. Again, these are default labels that may be changed. Faculty can add additional areas such as Exams or separate content by weeks [Week 1, Week 2, etc.].

The Primary Content Areas are where you will build or upload the majority of your course content — these areas make up the bulk of your course. In the Content Areas, you can build content items, folders, and Learning Units as well as add tests/surveys/quizzes, assignments, and external links.

For a list of acceptable file types please visit the Blackboard file Types page.
