Customizing Blackboard

You have the ability to customize the look and feel of your Blackboard Welcome page. The instructions listed below cover how to add a module, specifically the "What's New" module the page, and modify the look and feel of the My Institution page.

Adding a module to the My Institution page

There are many types of modules that can be added to the My Institution page.

Modules Available in Blackboard

In this instance you will be adding the Thesaurus module.

  1. Navigate to the My Institution page. 
  2. Click the Modify Content button.  
  3. Click on the check box next to the word, “Thesaurus.”
  4. Click on the Submit button.
  5. You will receive a Receipt indicating the successful submission of your content. On the Receipt page, click the OK button to clear the receipt. In Blackboard, an OK button always indicates   "finished with this page." 

Modifying the Look of the My Institution page.

The modify layout page allows you to move modules to the left or right side of the screen as well as change the color scheme of the My Institution page. Order the modules by using the up and down arrows. Remove modules by clicking the X. Modules marked with asterisks are required and cannot be removed.

  1. Navigate to the My Institution page. 
  2. Click the Modify Layout button.  (Change the Order of Modules)  
  3. Order modules by using the up and down arrows located in option 1, Personalize Page Layout. Choose a module to move to the top of the Column 1. In this example, the My Announcements module is moved from the third position to the first position.

Modify Column Contnet

  1. Click on the Submit button.
  2. You will receive a Receipt indicating the successful submission of your content. On the Receipt page, click the OK button to clear the receipt.  

Minimize, Modify and Remove Modules

Each module has different options associated with it. Below is a list of options that may appear in the module box. Choosing Detach the module will open the module in another small browser window while leaving a copy of the module on the My Institution page. The Minimize module icon allows users to “clean up” the My Institution page by closing the module and displaying only the header of the module on the page. The module can be resized by clicking on the Maximize module icon. Clicking on the Modify the module icon allows users to select what courses are displayed in the module. The X icon removes a module from the My Institution page. To add the module to the My Institution page, click on the Modify Content button and select the appropriate check box.

Special Note:
Using the options in the Modify module icon does not remove the course from the Bb Enterprise System it only effects the information displayed on the My Institution page.

My Institution Normal Color Scheme

  1. Click on the Modify Layout button.
  2. Navigate to option 2, Personalize Theme.
  3. Click on the radial button next to the Desert theme.
  4. Click on the Submit button.
  5. The submit success page will appear, click on the OK button. The resulting change should look  similar to the result shown below.

Modifying Courses listed in the My Courses Box

Note: Unchecking the check box does not remove it from the Blackboard Server. It only removes the course from the My Course Module. All courses are available on the Courses page.

  1. Navigate to the My Institution page.
  2. Click on the pencil icon within the My Course box. The customize My Courses page appears. 
  3. Uncheck the check box next to the courses that you no longer want to appear on the page.



  4. Click on the Submit button.
  5. The submit success page will appear, click on the OK button. The resulting change should look similar to the result shown below.
