Gradebook
The Gradebook allows instructors to manage the grades for exams and assignments created in Bb and those completed outside of Bb. Instructors can change the display options and settings [number of points, item description, item visibility (for students), item inclusion in the Gradebook calculations, etc.], weight grades and upload/download grades using Excel.
What You Can Do:
- Test grades are automatically recorded if taken in the Blackboard platform.
- Assignments given in class can manually be added to the Gradebook.
- The Gradebook can be backed up easily to an Excel spreadsheet.
- Import revised spreadsheets back into course.
- Weight scores by individual items or groups of items (categories).
What are the benefits of using the Gradebook?
Posting grades in the Gradebook offers several advantages:
- Students can monitor their grades throughout the course
- Instructors can access the Gradebook from anywhere through an Internet connection
- Instructors can easily download the Gradebook for backup
- Instructors can use the Weighted Grading feature to calculate final grades without having to create formulas in a spreadsheet
How do items get into the Gradebook?
Items are automatically created in the Gradebook under two circumstances:
- An assessment is created using the Blackboard test or survey tools and
- An assignment is created using the Blackboard Assignment tool.
Items may also be created manually.
How do grades get into the Gradebook?
Scores for tests and surveys are automatically entered into the Gradebook when the student completes the test or survey. An exclamation point (!) is entered into the Gradebook when a student completes a Blackboard Assignment; you can manually enter the score after reviewing the assignment. The exclamation point is also entered if a test includes a short answer essay that requires manual grading.
You must manually enter grades for items that were manually created OR import those from a spreadsheet that was edited outside of Blackboard.
