What's New: Flash 8 (Learn More)

Flash 8 has many features that will enhance your learning modules or games. Adobe included a new font rendering engine coupled with the addition of filter effect and runtime support for blending modes which will add to the overall look of your text. Other improvements include an improved script editor. New video encoding options including the ability to composite video over other Flash content and the ability to place cue points in your Flash presentation that can trigger other events dynamically have also been included in Flash 8.

Flash Tutorials

Purpose

Adobe Flash allows faculty to create interactive learning modules or games which will help students understand complex concepts through the use of animation for the Web or in Blackboard. Flash uses vector graphics. Vector graphicscan be scaled to any size without losing image clarity or quality. No programming skills are required however, faculty who create complex projects will need to learn Actionscript.

The educational version of Adobe Flash can be purchased for approximately $100.00. Please visit shi.com to view current pricing or purchase Adobe Studio which includes Dreamweaver, Flash, Fireworks and Freehand which can be purchased for approximately $183.00. Prices may vary.

Workshops and Workshop Handouts (Workshop Schedule)

IDDS does not currently offer training in Adobe Flash. Please look under Web Resources for Adobe Flash tutorials. The Library has purchased a license to Safari. Safari is a database that hold entire books for your reference.

To access Safari:

  1. Navigate to the Shippensburg University home page
  2. Click on the Library link
  3. Click on the Databases icon
  4. In the alphabet row, click on the letter S
  5. Choose the Safari database
  6. The database will open
  7. Enter text in the Search text box
  8. Click on the Go button
  9. The result page will open. Find a book that interests you.
