Purpose

Faculty can use Impatica for PowerPoint to add narrated presentations to their Web site or Blackboard course shell. Impatica for PowerPoint simply converts the PowerPoint file into a compressed format (Java) that is optimized for streaming over the Internet. The content can be easily displayed even when using a 28.8kbps modem. Impatica supports most of the features available in PowerPoint. Faculty and students may need to download the Java plug-in because it is not shipped with the Microsoft Operating system. Impatica is only available in the IDDS lab, room LL012. The current version of Impatica is The current release of Impatica for PowerPoint is version 4.0.2.

The New Version of Impatica includes these features:

  • Support for the PowerPoint 2007 file format
  • Support for Intel-based Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows Vista computers
  • Support for Palm OS viewing and projecting with the Impatica ShowMate
  • Adjustable, scalable playback window
  • Full screen viewing capabilities
  • Enhanced logging
  • Support for PowerPoint 2007 multi-stop gradients such as rainbow
  • Expanded audio support in the PowerPoint 2007 file format (any audio format supported by QuickTime)
  • New graphics and color scheme for user interface
  • New installer mechanism for Windows computers

Strengths

  1. Deliver fully narrated and animated PowerPoint presentations to essentially any Internet device without plug-ins and even at normal modem speeds.
  2. The Impatica file is typically 95% smaller than the PowerPoint HTML files.
  3. Impatica for PowerPoint supports most of the features of PowerPoint, including text, graphics, transitions, animation effects and, of course, narration.

Objectives

This workshops provides an overview of three great software packages designed to make placing information on the Web or in Blackboard easier. Impatica is a software program used to modify PowerPoint presentations so that students will not need Microsoft PowerPoint or the PowerPoint viewer to look at the file. Impatica can only be used in the CIT lab. Repondus is a program available for download to your office and home computer (campus-wide license) which helps in the creation of exams and quizzes. Camtasia is a product that allows faculty to record what is happening on their computer screen. If you want to create mini-softare tutorials for your students or want to demonstrate a specific concept, Camtasia is one option that you can use to create the tutorial. Camtasia is only available in the CIT lab.

Objectives

This workshop provides faculty with the basic information (optimal settings, upload information) needed to successfully "Impaticize" your PowerPoint files.

Note: Please bring one or two PowerPoint presentations to convert during the workshop.
