Purpose

The operating system is the most important program that runs on your computer because it allows all other software programs to function. The operating system also works as a communcation tool between your software and hardware devices. The operating system keeps track of files and directories.

  1. PC with 300 megahertz or higher processor clock speed recommended; 233 MHz minimum required (single or dual processor system);* Intel Pentium/Celeron family, or AMD K6/Athlon/Duron family, or compatible processor recommended
  2. 128 megabytes (MB) of RAM or higher recommended (64 MB minimum supported; may limit performance and some features)
  3. 1.5 gigabytes (GB) of available hard disk space*
  4. Super VGA (800 x 600) or higher-resolution video adapter and monitor

To access Safari:

  1. Navigate to the Shippensburg University home page
  2. Click on the Library link
  3. Click on the Databases icon
  4. In the alphabet row, click on the letter S
  5. Choose the Safari database
  6. The database will open
  7. Enter text in the Search text box
  8. Click on the Go button
  9. The result page will open. Find a book that interests you.
