Graduate Student Research Program

Applications for financial support are invited from graduate students to conduct research or engage in scholarly activities under the Graduate Student Research Program. This program is open to graduate students only. The Graduate Student Research Program is designed to provide financial support to graduate students for research or scholarly activities related to their program of studies to enable them to better understand the scientific process, experience discovery, develop their analytical and communication skills, gain exposure to current ideas, and exposure to national and regional audiences through the presentation of the results of their research at conferences.

Application

A complete application, not to exceed three double-spaced pages addressing the selection criteria listed below, and a separate detailed budget is required. Also include the written commitment and support of your academic department chairperson and faculty advisor. 

Selection Criteria

Applications must address each of the following:

  • Relevance and significance of topic
  • Adequacy of design, feasibility and likelihood for success
  • Potential for learning

Application Review

The University Graduate Research Advisory Committee, comprised of faculty representing each college, will review all eligible applications and make funding recommendations to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs for approval.

Allowable Costs

Allowable costs are limited to project expenses, excluding stipends, wages, equipment, international travel, and gratuities. Travel expenses must be shown to be related directly to the proposed research, for the collection of data, or for other project activities. Requests for funds to travel to professional conferences to present the results of this funded research will be considered with the project, while requests for funds to travel to conferences as an attendee will be considered if funds are available after the review process is completed. 

Outcomes

Students conducting projects during the academic year will be expected to present the results of their research at a student research poster program to be held on campus in Spring 2008.
