I am a proud New Englander from northeastern Connecticut. I started my college career in the Champlain lowlands fishing and duck hunting while accidentally earning BS in Business from the University of Vermont. After staying in New England for an MBA at the University of Connecticut and working in financial services, I headed to central Pennsylvania for a PhD in Geography from Penn State. Ship has been my home since 1999, where my teaching and research interests lie in the areas of economic and transportation geography. When not in Shippensburg, I am usually in Boston, Japan, or in an airplane to somewhere else.

TEACHING, Research & Service

I regularly teach 4 classes within the Geography & Earth Science Department. These include: GEO 103: Geography of the U.S.A. & Canada; GEO 140: Cultural Geography; GEO 230: Economic Geography; and GEO 317: Geography of East Asia. I also advise independent research projects and masters theses.

My research is largely in the area of economic and transport geography, with a focus on the airline industry. Over the years I have published on business firm agglomeration economies, poverty in Appalachia, urban change in Kobe, Japan, regional economic change in south-central Pennsylvania, and various transport-related issues among other things. I am currently working on a projects investigating the role of "second" cities in the global airline network as well as a variety of other international and domestic route assessments.
