Course Content:

This course will involve the study of statistical methods and their application to various data sets. The entire statistical process of data collection, fitting data to a model, analysis of the model, verification of the model and inference will be covered. Topics include hypothesis testing, two-population means and proportions, bivariate relationships, regression, ANOVA, experimental designs, two-way tables and multivariate analysis.  Examples will be taken from a variety of disciplines. We will review chapters 5-7 and cover most of chapters 8-15.

Course Goals:

·         To prepare you to be proficient in the practice of statistics.

·         To understand the statistical process of collecting data, fitting data to a model and inference procedures.

·         To develop our problem solving and critical thinking skills.

·         To enhance learning and understanding of statistical concepts through the integrated use of graphing calculators and Minitab.

·         To enjoy the learning experience.

Office Hours: The following is a list of my office hours for this semester:

·         Monday 2:00-3:30 p.m.

·         Tuesday 10:00-11:00 a.m.

·         Friday 1:00-2:00 p.m.

  and by appointment.

I strongly encourage you to take advantage of my office hours.

Textbook: An Introduction to Statistical Methods and Data Analysis  (fifth edition) by R. Lyman Ott and Michael Longnecker.

Technology:  In the classroom we will be using both the TI-83 and the statistical software package, Minitab.
