Video Conference Rooms Reserve Information

The Distance Learning Classrooms can be used for "field trips" to distant locations, guest interviews and conferences without the expense or hassle of traveling. The videoconferencing rooms are located in Grove 006, Shippen 140, and Grove 401.

The Distance Learning Classroom that is maintained by the Media Services department, located in Grove Hall 006, is comprised of a Polycom VS-4000 codec with both 3 BRI (ISDN) and IP interface. There is seating for 25 students. The system includes: Parkervision Student and Instructor's Cameras with auto-follow on the instructor camera and push-to-talk presets on the student camera. The system also includes an AMX Command Touch Control Panel, two 32" high-resolution monitors, Elmo EV400 document camera, Dell PC (Windows XP operating system), Sympodium monitor, Panasonic AG-LD-20 DVD Player, Panasonic AG-2540 VCR, 18 Parkervision push-to-talk mics, Audio-Technica gooseneck mic, Audio-Technica B-800 gated mic mixers, and other accessories to provide a fully operational system.

The system uses the H.320 and H.323 standard and can connect to other sites via ISDN telephone lines at 384k or IP connectivity at 384k. The system can also connect to the other 13 State Universities and Dixon University Center in Harrisburg via an IP connection at speeds up to 512K. The advantage of the IP connection is that it can be faster and does not incur telephone line charges, and it allows multipoint conferencing with all 14 sites able to connect together at one time. With an ISDN call, there are per minute telephone charges to be paid by the site initiating the call. For non-university users, the rate for using the Distance Education Room is $100.00/hour plus any long distance telephone charges. Arrangements need to be made well in advance for IP multi-point connections, as this is controlled by the NOC, the multi-point bridge located at West Chester. If an ISDN connection is desired, a test call should be setup in advance to insure compatibility of the two systems.

Graduate Assistants, Jim Stuart or Jill Kessler, are available to operate the video-conferencing facility and assist in training and setup.

Usage of this room is prioritized as follows:

1.       Credit Courses utilizing the television studio or a distance learning function
2.       Continuing Ed and other non-credit courses utilizing distance ed
3.       Satellite down-linking
4.       Outside requests for video-conferencing
5.       Misc. requests for video playbacks, etc.
