EL CLUB DE ESPAÑOL El club de español fue a Washington a ver una estupenda exposición de pintura y armaduras de la época de los Habsburgos el 3 de octubre. El club cenó luego en un restaurante mexicano con los Dres. Ricardo y Ragone. ¡Todos lo pasaron muy bien!

El club de español tuvo su primera actividad el JUEVES 24 DE SEPTIEMBRE y fue a escuchar el CONCIERTO DEL MAESTRO SOLER en Wilson College. La velada fue muy agradable.     El Club irá a Washington el 3 de octubre para ver la exposición THE ART OF POWER En la National Gallery Y cenará en un resataurante hispano Programa para la primavera 2009 La presidenta del Club de español, la señorita Megan Mcdermott, les invita a las siguientes actividades: 10 de febrero Presentaciones de Kelsey Billie (Salamanca) y Chris Weishaupt (América Latina) 19 de febrero   Teatro.  Tienen que avisar a la Dra. Bagués antes del 1 de febrero si quieren ir 10 de marzo Presentación de Elisabeth Mulcahy (Barcelona) 24 de marzo  Película de HORROR Abril Fiesta en casa de Megan y Kelsey Children Fair Cena en Montezuma’s

 

OTOÑO 2008 Programa del club de español El 18 de septiembre habla Mayda del Valle en el CUB  MPR a las 9 p.m. (GRATIS).  Es poetisa latina. El 20 de septiembre de 4 a 7 p.m. en el CUB tendrá lugar el Latino Explosion.  El evento es gratis, habrá comida y el Dr. Ricardo enseñará a bailar. El 23 de septiembre a las 7:30 p.m. en Old Main Chapel habrá un concierto del Baltimore Consort en la universidad, con canciones medievales españolas (GRATIS). También el 23 de septiembre a las 7:00 p.m. tendrá lugar un debate sobre la inmigración. El 8 de octubre a las 6:45 p.m. en York hay un concierto de música llanera.  Las personas interesadas han de contactar a Ashley Lloyd al5929@ship.edu cuanto antes. El departamento de teatro pone una obra sobre inmigrantes este semestre.  La obra sel lama Living out.  (GRATIS JUEVES 10/30 @ 7:30  Memorial Auditorium). En noviembre, el teatro Gala ofrece un programa de canciones de Puerto Rico ($18.00).  Se iría un fin de semana.  Las personas interesadas han de contactar a la Dra. Ragone acrago@ship.edu antes del 15 de octubre. En noviembre también, se recogerá dinero para comprar pavos para CHAC (Chambersburg Hispanic American Center) así como comida en lata. El 20 de noviembre sera noche de película. Cena de fin de semestre en Montezuma’s el 4 de diciembre. Otras fechas importantes: Visitas a los braceros: 21 de septiembre; 12 de octubre; 26 de octubre; 9 de noviembre.  SE NECESITAN SUÉTERES Y COBIJAS. Se sale a las 7p.m. del Spiritual Center.

 

Miss Ashley Llloyd, here with Dr. Ragone, was this year recipient of the Pauline Klaus Award. Ashley has been the President of the Spanish Club for the last two years.

 

Primavera 2008

El Club de Español fue a Washington este semestre para ver la obra de Federico García Lorca Bodas de Sangre. Los profesores Bagués, Ricardo y Ragone acompañaron a los estudiantes. Después de la representación, los estudiantes tuvieron el gusto de conocer a algunos de los actores. El club cenó en un restaurante salvadoreño.

Otoño 2007

On the 2nd of November, the Spanish Club went to Washington DC to see two exhibits on Mexican art and had dinner at a Mexican restaurant on Dupont Circle. Drs. Bagues and Ragone were part of the trip.

 

	The Club sponsors a bilingual school in Michoacan, Mexico and raised funds with a Salsa dance led by Dr. Ricardo. It was a succesful event!

As every year, the Club finished the semester with a dinner at Montezuma's in Chambersburg. Great food and good fellowship!

La Dra. Ragone disfrutó de su cena con los miembros del Club en el restaurante El Alero de D.C.	El Dr. Ricardo pasó también unos momentos agradables con los estudiantes.

VISITA A LOS OBREROS EN LOS MANZANARES

El 17 de setiembre 2006 la Reverenda Bye habla con los obreros mejicanos que trabajan en los manzanares. La Dra. Ragone traduce mientras habla.	El Club de Español la acompañó para charlar con los obreros. Aquí están los miembros del club con el Dr. Ricardo.

	La sociedad Sigma Delta Pi recibió nuevos miembros esta primavera. Las señoritas Kaitlyn Green y Jessica Robb así como los Drs. Lesman y Ricardo son ahora parte de la sociedad.

Spring 2008

	The Spanish Honors Society received its new inductees on December 7th, 2007. Drs Pineda-Volk and Bagues were the sponsors of the event. Kelsey Billie and Megan McDermott were chosen as the President and Vice-President of the Honors Society.

"Spanías Didagéi Proágomen"

Under the guidance of Dr. Ayala-Richards, the Shippensburg Chapter Tau Phi, of the Spanish Honor Society Sigma Delta Pi was created to promote both the Spanish and Hispanic cultures.  

The purposes of the society are:

1.      To honor those who attain excellence in the study of the Spanish language and in the study of the literature and culture of the Spanish-speaking peoples;

2.      To honor those who have made the Hispanic contributions to modern culture better known in the English-speaking world;

3.      To encourage college and university students to acquire a greater interest in and a deeper understanding of Hispanic culture;

4.      To foster friendly relations and mutual respect between the nations of Hispanic speech and those of English speech;

5.      To serve its membership in ways which will contribute to the attainment of the goals and ideals of the society.

Currently the Spanish Honor Society has four active members as well as honorary members who include members of the Shippensburg Universities Spanish teaching staff and other faculty members or college administrative officials notably devoted to the goals and ideals of Sigma Delta Pi and alumnus members who have graduated or for other reasons have left college. 

Requirements to be an active member:

1. Each must have completed three years of study of college-level Spanish (eighteen semester credit hours) or the equivalent thereof, including at least three semester hours of a course in Hispanic literature or Hispanic culture and civilization at the junior (third-year) level. A student may be admitted to active membership while still enrolled in the second junior-level course if all other requirements have been met and if the instructor of the course certifies that the student's work is of "B" or "A" quality.

2. The candidate for active membership must have a minimal grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0-point scale in all Spanish courses taken.

3. The candidate must rank in the upper 35% of his/her class--sophomore, junior, or senior--and must have completed at least three semesters or five quarters of college work.
