Gamelan: The Premier Java Directory, has chosen your applet as one of the best Java applets of the year. This exclusive award is only given to a small subset of the Java applets we have seen this year. We would like to include your winning applet for inclusion with the other winners in the "Official Gamelan Java Directory" CD-ROM which will be released next fall and promoted online and in our upcoming book. * As one of the elite applets on the CD-ROM, your work will be featured in our upcoming Gamelan directory book and promoted to a large worldwide audience of readers and Java enthusiasts. * You will also receive the "Gamelan's Best Java" logo to use on your site and your applets. * Your winning applet and your homepage will be featured in a new directory section of the Gamelan site for the winning applets. To accept your award and receive these benefits all you need to do is the following: 1) Tell us that you accept! Please send email to best@gamelan.com telling us that you're interested in putting your applet on the CD. 2) Create a "mini-site" for your applet. That is, make a folder containing an index.html page with instructions, credits, documentation, and the classes (and source code if possible) for your applet. If any additional data files are necessary to make your applet run (graphics, animation, etc.), include those too. 3) Compress your mini-site using zip, Stuffit, or tar, and then ftp it to the following location: ftp.earthweb.com/incoming/best/ Note: if you have several applets you think are good enough to be included on the CD-ROM, feel free to send them, but we can't guarantee to use all of them. (If you can't use FTP, please email us at best@gamelan.com and we'll work something out.) 4) Print out the release form (available at http://www.gamelan.com/best/release.html) authorizing Gamelan to promote your applet and include it on our CD-ROM. Please note that this is a non-exclusive release which does not prevent you from using your applet for other purposes. Sign the release form and mail it back to us NO LATER THAN JULY 1. 5) When we receive your archived applet and release form we will decompress your mini-site and make sure everything works. Then we will provide you with the "Gamelan's Best Java" logo to use on your winning applet and your Web site, and we will include your applet and information in our book and on the CD-ROM. If we do not receive everything in final form by July 1, we will not be able include you in this year's awards and you will have to wait until next year to try again. We look forward to including your work, which is among the best we have seen so far. We at Gamelan look forward to helping inform the public of you and your capabilities further. Again, congratulations! Alex Chaffee The Dalang Steve Renaker Deputy Dalang best@earthweb.com
