EIGHT PLAYERS CHOSEN TO D2FOOTBALL.COM ALL-REGION TEAM

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Shippensburg University had a total of eight players, led by senior defensive end Ryan Hoffman (Phoenixville, Pa./St. Pius X) and junior cornerback Brent Grimes (Philadelphia, Pa./Northeast), selected to the D2Football.com All-Northeast Region Team on Friday.

Shippensburgıs eight selections were second only to West Chester University and East Stroudsburg University who had nine each.  However, Hoffman and Grimes were the only Red Raiders chosen to the First-Team.  Grimes, who was a preseason All-America selection by D2Football.com, earned his second consecutive First-Team selection and was also chosen to the Second-Team as a return specialist.

Senior fullback John Kuhn (York, Pa./Dover) was chosen to the Second-Team as a running back, along with Chris Moore from the University of Charleston (WV).  Antoine Bagwell from California University (Pa.) and Andre Burke from Edinboro University were the First-Team selections.

The Red Raiders had a total of five players chosen to the All-Northeast Region Team on defense and three on offense.  Senior linebacker Dan Walsh (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and senior strong safety Mike Street (Philadelphia, Pa./Mastbaum) were both Second-Team selections in addition to Grimesı Second-Team selection on special teams.

Junior wide receiver Patrick Ferguson (Mt. Airy, Md./Urbana) was selected Honorable Mention, marking his first career All-Region honor.  Ferguson was chosen First-Team All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division for the second-straight season, leading the team in receiving with 25 catches for 721 yards and seven touchdowns.  He averaged 28.8 yards per catch and had three games with over 100 yards receiving.  Six of his seven touchdowns were over 30 yards.

As a testament to the vastly improved kicking game this year for Shippensburg, junior Denver Brydon (Salix, Pa./Forest Hills) and freshman Jamie Reder (Warrenton, Va./Faquier) were both named Honorable Mention on special teams.  Brydon was a First-Team All-PSAC Western Division selection this season after finishing among the conference leaders in average at 37.5 yards per punt.  He also had 14 punts inside the opponentsı 20-yard line.

Reder was a welcomed addition in 2004 as he finished second on the team in scoring with 74 points, a new single-season record for points scored by a kicker and the most since 1999.  He also set the school records for made point after touchdownıs (PATıs) in a single-season with 44 and the most points scored by a kicker in a single-game with 14 set against California (Pa.).  Reder made 10-of-13 field goal attempts this season, the most by a kicker since 1992.
