RED RAIDERS CONTINUE TO CLIMB IN THE POLLS; NOW A CONSENSUS TOP-20

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. In the midst of a seven-game win streak and a perfect 5-0 season, the Shippensburg University football team moved up one more spot in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division II Coachesı Poll on Tuesday to No. 9.  The Red Raiders and Carson-Newman College flip-flopped positions, despite both teams winning on Saturday.

In the three other major Division II national polls, Ship also moved up, most noticeably in the National Weekly Football Gazette NCAA Division II Top-40 as it went from No. 22 to No. 18 following last weekıs 17-10 victory over Edinboro University on Homecoming.  The Red Raiders also reached the top-10 in its second national poll this week, moving up from No. 11 in the dopke.com College Sports Report Division II Route 66 Rankings.  Finally, Ship was ranked at No. 11 by d2football.com.

Shippensburg continues PSAC Western Division play this weekend when it travels to Indiana University (Pa.).  Kickoff on Saturday is set for 2:00 p.m., at George P. Miller Stadium.  The Red Raiders have not beaten the Indians since 1988 and the last time Ship won at IUP came back in 1981.

Ship is looking for its best-ever start under 15-year head coach Rocky Rees and its first 6-0 start to a season since 1981 when the Red Raiders went undefeated in the regular-season with 10 wins and no losses before finishing the season 12-1.
