SHIPPENSBURG,
Pa. NCAA
Division II Football Committee has released its first set of regional rankings
for the 2004 season and Shippensburg University is No. 1 in the Northeast
Region. The Red Raiders are one of
nine Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) teams ranked in the top-12
teams.
Of
all of the regional and national polls conducted by the NCAA and various media
outlets and agencies, this is the most important poll to watch as it has a
direct impact on the selection of the teams for the 2004 NCAA Division II
Football Championship. Earned
access to the Division II playoffs can be gained by a conference if a
conference representative finishes in the top-10 of the final regional
rankings.
In the midst of a seven-game win streak and a perfect 5-0
season, Shippensburg continues PSAC Western Division play this weekend when it
travels to Indiana University (Pa.). Kickoff on Saturday is set for 2:00
p.m., at George P. Miller Stadium. The Indians are currently ranked at
No. 10 in the Northeast Region and have lost two-straight.
Ship
is looking for its best-ever start under 15-year head coach Rocky Rees and its
first 6-0 start to a season since 1981 when the Red Raiders went undefeated in
the regular-season with 10 wins and no losses before finishing the season 12-1.
The
top-12 teams by region are listed along with their records through games of
September 25, 2004.
