JOHN KUHN NAMED PSAC FALL TOP TEN AWARD WINNER

 

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Shippensburg University football player John Kuhn (York, Pa./Dover) was honored as a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Fall Top Ten Award winner, it was announced by the conference on Thursday. Kuhn, who received the award for the second-straight year, is the 15th Shippensburg athlete to win the award since it was instituted in 1997.

 

Kuhn is also the first Shippensburg male student-athlete to have received the award twice.  Five Lady Raider student-athletes have received the award twice with Kelly Stewart the only three-time winner.

 

The PSAC Fall Top Ten Awards, selected by the PSACıs sports information directors, recognize student-athletes who distinguish themselves in the classroom as well as in the arena of competition. The conference designates Top Ten Award winners after each of the sports seasons: fall, winter and spring. Only student-athletes from the fall sports season are eligible for the Fall Top Ten Awards. Those sports are: menıs and womenıs soccer, football, field hockey, womenıs volleyball and menıs and womenıs cross country.

 

To be a candidate for the Top Ten Awards, a student-athlete must have achieved a minimum of a 3.25 cumulative grade point average and must be a starter or key reserve with legitimate athletic credentials.

 

A chemistry major with a 3.293 grade point average, Kuhn was named as a CoSIDA First-Team Academic All-American in 2003 and 2004. Kuhn has worked for both Johnson & Johnson and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.

 

On the football field, Kuhn is one of the greatest running backs in Shippensburg and conference history. In 2004, he helped lead Shippensburg to a 10-2 record and its third-ever appearance in the NCAA Division II Football Championship. He currently holds 21 school single-season and career records, including nearly every rushing and scoring mark. Kuhn was also a part of several team records and ended his career with an appearance in the Whataburger Cactus Bowl Division II All-Star Game.

 

Kuhn also earned All-America status from the American Football Coaches Association and Associated Press as well as D2Football.com.

 

At the end of the academic year, the league announces the Scholar-Athlete Awards, which recognize student-athletes on all PSAC squads with 3.25 cumulative GPAs or better. Additionally, the PSAC names the top Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of Year.
