Strong Three-Point Shooting for Lock Haven Upends Red Raiders on the Road

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Three Red Raiders posted double figures in scoring, including 22 from senior guard Alex Jones (Englewood, Ohio/Northmont) and a career-high 17 points from freshman guard Justin Minter (Philadelphia/Cardinal Dougherty), but the Shippensburg University men’s basketball team dropped an 81-74 decision at Lock Haven Wednesday evening inside Thomas Fieldhouse.

Shippensburg (6-17, 0-8 PSAC West) also received 15 points from red-shirt sophomore center Derrick Graff (Drexel Hill/Monsignor Bonner) and shot 49.1 percent from the field for the game, but allowed the home-standing Bald Eagles to shoot 50.9 percent and achieve their highest point total since the two teams met to open PSAC West play back on January 16.

Lock Haven (2-20, 2-6 PSAC West) shot a blistering 50-percent from the field in the first half, including 12 points from junior Billy Arre to lead 35-32 at the half. The difference in the game was their blistering percentage from 3-point range, where the Bald Eagles made 12-of-19 attempts from behind the line.

The Red Raiders responded with a 9-2 run to start the second half, highlighted by five points from Minter. The Bald Eagles, however, responded with a 12-0 run to take a nine-point lead, 50-41, with 10:17 to play.

Lock Haven maintained the lead throughout the final 10 minutes and led by as many as 14 points before the final whistle sounded.

Sophomore guard Brian Oleksiak (Meadowbrook/Abington) led the team in rebounds with seven to go along with seven points, while red-shirt junior guard Ryan Kraft (Royersford/Spring-Ford) delivered five points and six rebounds.

For the Bald Eagles, Kelvin McLean made 5-of-6 attempts from behind the three-point line to deliver 17 points, while Eli Hanna matched his production while shooting 5-of-9 from behind the arc.

Shippensburg finally returns home after 24 days away from Heiges Field House for a matchup against Clarion on Saturday. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
