Beckley Receives Fifth-Straight PSAC Western Division Weekly Honor

Jan. 4, 2007

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - For the fifth consecutive week, Shippensburg women's basketball freshman forward Lauren Beckley (Fairfield/Fairfield) was honored by the PSAC with one of its weekly awards as she was named PSAC Western Division Rookie of the Week on Thursday for the fourth time. She was also named Western Division Player of the Week on December 4.

By having earned Rookie of the Week honors four times, Beckley is one short of the school record of five set by senior center Shanna Oaddams (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro) who was named 2004 PSAC Western Division Rookie of the Year.

Beckley averaged 22.0 points and 9.0 rebounds as Shippensburg went 1-1 at the Surf N’Slam Tournament in San Diego, California. She scored a career-high 30 points on 10-of-19 field goals and tied the school record with eight three-pointers (8-of-15) in the Lady Raiders 72-58 victory against Shaw.

For the week, Beckley shot 44.1-percent (15-of-34) from the floor, 52.6-percent from behind the arc (10-of-19) and grabbed 18 rebounds to go with eight steals.

On the season, Beckley continues to lead the PSAC in scoring at 21.9 points per game, two points ahead of Kelly Calderone of Edinboro who is averaging 19.9 per game. She also leads the league in three-pointers with 41, 17 ahead of Katie Glaws of Indiana (Pa.) who has 24, and is fifth in rebounding at 8.6 per game.

Beckley also ranks in the top-10 in the conference in three-point field goal percentage (2nd), steals (7th), free throw percentage (7th) and field goal percentage (10th).

Shippensburg continues PSAC crossover play this weekend with games at West Chester and Millersville. Shippensburg is 3-1 against the PSAC Eastern Division this season and 40-18 in eight seasons under head coach Kristy Trn.

Both games can be heard live on Shippensburg University student radio station WSYC 88.7 FM and on the internet at raiders.ship.edu.
