RECENT SERIES HISTORY
Shippensburg
(7-5), winners in four of its last five games, will look to end a five-game
losing streak against West Chester on
Saturday when the Lady Raiders take on the Golden Rams at 1:00 p.m., inside
Hollinger
Fieldhouse. The last win for Shippensburg against West Chester (3-5)
was on Jan. 14, 2001 by a score of 88-73 at home while the last road win
for the Lady Raiders came back on Dec. 4, 1999 when they won
66-51.
On Sunday, Shippensburg will travel to Millersville (7-3) for a 1:00 p.m., tip-off with the Marauders at Pucillo Gymnasium, a place where the Lady Raiders have not won since an 88-62 victory on Nov. 25, 1995, a span of five games. Millersville has also won six of the last nine meetings against Shippensburg.
LAST YEAR AGAINST WEST CHESTER
Free throws by Ashley Sammons and Justine Pfaff in the final
27 seconds gave West Chester a 74-73 victory over Shippensburg
on in last year's meeting at Heiges Field House on Dec. 3, 2005. Senior
center Shanna Oaddams (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro) totaled 23 points
and 14 rebounds in the loss.
With the ball and trailing 72-71, the Lady Raiders committed their 24th turnover of the game, giving the ball back to West Chester with 28 seconds remaining. Sammons hit one of two free throws to push the lead to two before a foul by Elise McCloy sent Oaddams to the free throw line for two shots.
Oaddams missed both free throws and Pfaff grabbed the rebound before she was fouled, but again, West Chester hit just one of its two attempts, giving Shippensburg a fourth opportunity over the course of the final minute to tie the game with 17 seconds left.
However, the Lady Raiders could not get off a three-point attempt, instead settling for a lay-up by Oaddams with 0.5 seconds remaining to pull within one, 74-73. The Golden Rams simply inbounded the ball and the clock expired.
Junior guard Megan Fogle (Wrightsville/Eastern York) finished with 20 points and sophomore guard Phylicia Bessick (Columbia/Hempfield) totaled 11 points and nine rebounds.
LAST YEAR AGAINST MILLERSVILLE
Led by 16 points and 12 rebounds from Oaddams, both game-highs,
Shippensburg
took a 60-53 victory over Millersville
on Jan. 15, 2006 at Heiges Field House. Fogle and Bessick
had 14 and 12 points, respectively.
Shippensburg led by as many as 14 points in the second half, 45-31 at the 11:18 mark, before Millersville went on an 18-4 run over the next seven minutes to tie the game for the first time at 49-49. However, the Lady Raiders' defense would hold the Marauders to just two baskets in the final four-plus minutes, both coming in the final 41 seconds, to pick up the win.
BECKLEY NAMED ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
For the fifth consecutive week, Shippensburg freshman forward
Lauren Beckley (Fairfield/Fairfield) was honored by the PSAC with
one of its weekly awards as she was named PSAC Western Division Rookie of
the Week on Thursday for the fourth time. She was also named Western Division
Player of the Week on December 4.
Beckley averaged 22.0 points and 9.0 rebounds as Shippensburg went 1-1 at the Surf N’Slam Tournament in San Diego, California. She scored a career-high 30 points on 10-of-19 field goals and tied the school record with eight three-pointers (8-of-15) in the Lady Raiders 72-58 victory against Shaw.
For the week, Beckley shot 44.1-percent (15-of-34) from the floor, 52.6-percent from behind the arc (10-of-19) and grabbed 18 rebounds to go with eight steals.
On the season, Beckley continues to lead the PSAC in scoring at 21.9 points per game, two points ahead of Kelly Calderone of Edinboro who is averaging 19.9 per game. The school record for scoring average by a freshman is 16.3 points set by Stacey Cunningham '84 during the 1980-81 season.
Beckley also leads the league in three-pointers with 41, 17 ahead of Katie Glaws of Indiana (Pa.) who has 24, and is fifth in rebounding at 8.6 per game. She also ranks in the top-10 in the conference in three-point field goal percentage (2nd), steals (7th), free throw percentage (7th) and field goal percentage (10th).
OADDAMS NEARING 1,000 REBOUNDS
Through 95 career games, senior center Shanna Oaddams has
totaled 1,240 points and 837 rebounds and with 15 regular-season games
remaining, needs 163 rebounds to become just the second player in school
history with 1,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds.
Ashley Totedo '99, who finished her career with 2,050 points and 1,489 rebounds, is the only Lady Raider to have accomplished the feat so far.
Oaddams is currently 12th on the school's career scoring list and second in rebounding.
FOGLE APPROACHES 1,000 CAREER POINTS
Junior guard Megan Fogle enters this weekend's games with
881 career points, needing just 119 to become the 15th player in school
history to reach 1,000. The 2005 PSAC Western Division Rookie of the Year
has started all 66 of the team's games since coming to Shippensburg, averaging
13.3 points per game.
Fogle has also made 142 three-pointers during that time, the most in the PSAC over the last two-plus seasons. The school record for career three-pointers is 246 held by Tracy Spencer '96.
