Lauren Beckley Named Co-PSAC Western Division Player of the Week

Jan. 7, 2008

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - For the fourth-time in her career, Shippensburg University women's basketball sophomore forward Lauren Beckley (Fairfield/Fairfield) was named PSAC Western Division Player of the Week on Monday. It was the second time she has received the honor this season.

It was also the second time this season that Beckley shared the honor with Jahzinga Tracey of Indiana (Pa.). Of the four times Beckley has received the award, she has shared it with Tracey three times.

Beckley was also a six-time PSAC Western Division Rookie of the Week last season.

During Shippensburg's 3-1 record since the last PSAC report, Beckley averaged 21.5 points and 9.5 rebounds, both team-highs, while shooting 61.0 percent from the floor (36-of-59).

Beckley's best game during that stretch came in a 74-61 victory over West Virginia State on December 30 when she scored a career-high 35 points to go along with eight rebounds. She also added 21 points and eight rebounds in a 72-61 victory over Millersville on Sunday.

Beckley has now totaled 856 career points in just 42 career games for an average of 20.4 per game. With 13 regular season games remaining, she needs just 144 to become the first player in school history, men's or women's, to reach 1,000 career points as a sophomore.

Shippensburg returns to action at Cheyney next Sunday, January 13. Tip-off is at 1:00 p.m.
