Kristy Trn Becomes Shippensburg's Career Wins Leader

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Shippensburg University women's basketball team's 72-61 victory over Millersville on Sunday was the 161st victory for head coach Kristy Trn '93-'94M in nine seasons at Shippensburg, making her the winningest coach in school history. She passed current Bellarmine head coach David Smith who totaled 160 wins in eight seasons with the Lady Raiders from 1990-98.

Trn, who played three seasons under Smith in from 1990-93 before joining him as an assistant coach for four seasons from 1994-98, currently has a career record of 161-85 (.654). Smith had a record of 160-69 (.699) at Shippensburg.

Sunday's victory also marked the Lady Raiders' best start to a season since the 2001-02 campaign when Shippensburg also started the year 11-3 en route to a 20-9 record and an appearance in the 2002 NCAA Women's Basketball Championship.

Meanwhile, Saturday's 74-62 victory over West Chester was Trn's 400th game on the sidelines as a coach at Shippensburg.

In Trn's 13-plus seasons at Shippensburg as both the head coach and full-time assistant coach, the Lady Raiders have a record of 288-113 (.718), 11 winning seasons, eight 20-win seasons, eight NCAA Tournament appearances, six PSAC championships, three NCAA East Region titles, three Elite Eight appearances and a final national ranking of No. 2 in 1996.

In addition, the program has also boasted 18 All-PSAC Western Division First Team selections, nine Second Team selections, four Athlete of the Year and five Rookie of the Year honorees.

As a player, Kristy (O'Hara) Trn scored 1,765 career points, the fourth-highest total in school history. A three-time All-PSAC Western Division selection under Smith, she is also fifth all-time with 656 career rebounds, seventh with 348 assists and nine with 180 steals.

Shippensburg returns to action on Sunday, January 13 when the team travels to Cheyney for its final PSAC crossover contest this season. Tip-off is at 1:00 p.m.

With the addition of Gannon and Mercyhurst to the PSAC beginning next season, Shippensburg will move to the Eastern Division. Heading into Sunday's game, the Lady Raiders are 48-19 against the Eastern Division under head Trn, including 5-1 this season.
