Shippensburg’s Kasey Gardner Named Rookie of the Week For Fourth Time

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Shippensburg women’s basketball freshman forward Kasey Gardner (Sharpsville/Sharpsville) was named the PSAC Western Division Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive week and the fourth time this season after averaging 15 points in two games for the Lady Raiders.
Shippensburg, under the tutelage of ninth-year head coach Kristy Trn '93-'94M, has now had an athlete win the Rookie of the Week award 12 times out of the last 22 weeks of the award, dating back to the start of the 2006-07 season.
Gardner averaged 15.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists in the two contests and also shot 43.5 percent from the floor, 42.9 percent from three-point range and 87.5 percent from the free throw line.
After totaling 10 points and three rebounds versus California (Pa.) on Wednesday, she scored a career-high 20 points to go along with six rebounds and three assists at Clarion on Saturday.
For the season, Gardner is third on the team with an average of 11.4 points per game and second on the team in rebounds, averaging 5.5 per contest.
The Lady Raiders will continue their five-game road trip on Wednesday when they travel to Indiana (Pa.). Game time with the Crimson Hawks is set for 5:30 p.m.
