Big Second Half Leads Lady Raiders to 79-64 Win at Clarion, Fogle Scores 17

CLARION,
Pa. - Junior guard Megan Fogle (Wrightsville/Eastern
York) scored a
team-high 17 points, 10 of which came from the free throw line, to lead the
Shippensburg women's basketball team to a 79-64 victory over Clarion at
Tippin Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Lady Raiders (15-9, 5-4 PSAC West) snapped a three-game
losing streak and maintained their hold on third-place in the PSAC Western
Division, a half-game behind California (Pa.).
With her 17 points, Fogle now has 997 in her career, three shy of becoming
the 15th player in school history to reach 1,000. She scored 12 of her
points in the second half and was 10-of-12 from the free throw line for
the
game.
Fogle led five Lady Raiders in double figures as freshman forward Lauren
Beckley (Fairfield/Fairfield) and red-shirt freshman forward Jenny
Cunningham (McVeytown/Lewistown) each had 13 points while senior
center Shanna Oaddams (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro) and
sophomore guard Phylicia
Bessick (Columbia/Hempfield) added 12 apiece.
Oaddams also had a game-high 12 rebounds, totaling her 31st career double
double and sixth this season.
Free throws and turnovers plaqued the team during its three-game losing
streak, but this afternoon, Shippensburg shot 82.1-percent from the line
(23-of-28) and had 18 turnovers compared to an average of 21.3 over the
last
three games.
The Lady Raiders also had success shooting the ball from the floor,
particularly in the second half as they made 51.9-percent of their attempts
en route to a 51-point half.
After trailing by two at halftime, Shippensburg outscored the Golden
Eagles
51-34 in the second half en route to the 15-point victory.
With the score tied at 43-43 with 12:08 remaining in the second half,
the
Lady Raiders went on a 13-2 run to take a 56-45 lead with 5:56 left.
During
the run, Bessick had six points on two three-pointers while Beckley added
five.
Clarion (7-16, 2-7 PSAC West) would cut the lead to five with 3:43 to
play
following a 9-3 run, but Shippensburg quickly pushed the lead to 12 with
a
7-0 run.
Bessick totaled 10 of her 12 points in the second half, nine of which
came
on three-pointers as she was a perfect 3-of-3 from behind the arc.
Katrina Greer scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Golden Eagles
while
Ashley Grimm added 11 points and nine assists.
Shippensburg returns home on Wednesday to host California (Pa.) on Senior
Night. Game time is at 6:00 p.m. Prior to the game, the team will honor
its
two seniors in Oaddams and guard Samantha Ramus (New Cumberland/Trinity).
