Mar. 8, 2008

ATLANTA, Ga. - Shippensburg University women's basketball sophomore forward Lauren Beckley (Fairfield/Fairfield) was one of 40 finalists, including five from Region 2, selected for the 2008 Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) State Farm Coaches' All-America Team.

The 40 finalists, five from each of the eight WBCA award regions, are voted upon by WBCA member coaches in each region and are now in the running for selection to the 10-member All-America Team.

The State Farm Coaches' All-America Team will be announced at the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Banquet on Tuesday, March 25 at the University of Nebraska-Kearney in Kearney, Nebraska.

The 2007 PSAC Western Division Rookie of the Year, Beckley leads the PSAC in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 22.3 points and 11.1 rebounds. She finished the year with 21 double-doubles in 28 games and was named PSAC Western Division Player of the Week five times this season, the most of any player in either division.

Beckley finished the season with 624 points, the third-highest single-season total in school history. Through two seasons, she has already totaled 1,172 career points to rank 13th on the school's all-time list while also totaling 28 double-doubles and 130 three-point field goals.

The last player from Shippensburg to be named to the WBCA All-America Team was Ashley Totedo '99 who was a three-time selection from 1997-99. The only other Lady Raider to be chosen was Stacey Cunningham '84 back in 1984.

Joining Beckley as finalists from Region 2 were Nikki Anthony of Anderson (S.C.), Lakeisha Monroe of Mount Olive, Jahzinga Tracey of Indiana (Pa.) and Sarah Van Horn of West Virginia Wesleyan.

Shippensburg concluded its season with a 19-9 record, just missing its first 20-win season since 2002, and advanced to its 14th PSAC Women's Basketball Championship in the last 15 years.
