Dec. 4, 2006
SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Shippensburg women's
basketball freshman forward Lauren Beckley (Fairfield/Fairfield) received
her second career honor as a collegiate player on Monday when she was
named PSAC Western Division Player of the Week. The honor comes after she
was named PSAC Western Division Rookie of the Week last week.
Beckley continued her stellar first-year by averaging 27.2 points and 6.3
rebounds in three games last week as the Lady Raiders posted a 1-2 record.
In the team's 93-72 victory at Kutztown on Saturday, she scored a career-high
30 points, 23 of which came in the first half as Shippensburg built a 53-29
halftime lead. She also added six rebounds and three steals.
Against Pittsburgh-Johnstown on Wednesday, Beckley totaled 24 points and eight rebounds, both team-highs and on Sunday, she added a game-high 28 points and five rebounds.
Through seven games this season, Beckley leads the team in scoring at 22.0 points per game, is second in rebounding, averaging 7.3 per game and has been named PSAC Western Division Rookie and Player of the Week once in each of the two weeks that the conference has handed out its weekly honors.
Beckley also leads the team in three-pointers (22) and steals
(16) while also leading the PSAC in scoring and three-pointers. She is
the only player in the conference averaging over 20 points per game,
2.7 ahead of Kim Nowakowski of California (Pa.) and 4.1 ahead of Bianca
Lee of Bloomsburg who is the next highest scoring freshman.
Shippensburg returns to action on Saturday when it travels to West Virginia
Wesleyan for a 4:00 p.m., contest with the Lady Bobcats in Rockefeller
Center. The game will mark the first for Lady Raider senior guard Samantha
Ramus (New Cumberland/Trinity) in Buckhannon since she transferred to Shippensburg
following the 2003-04 season.
