FieldShow

The Woodwind Chamber Ensembles are open to all woodwind instrument performers; auditions are not required. Each semester chamber ensembles are formed to meet the interests of the program's participants. Large groups, such as the flute ensemble (including piccolos, C flutes, alto, and bass flutes) and clarinet ensemble (comprising E-flat sopranino, B-flat soprano, alto, bass, and contrabass clarinets) are rehearsed and conducted by the faculty director. Smaller ensembles rehearse on their own with some faculty coaching. Strings and harpsichord are also included in some groups. The groups perform a wide variety of music from all styles, historical periods, and difficulty levels.

The Woodwind Chamber Ensemble members perform in full-length recitals on campus as well as off campus events each semester. In addition, they particiapte in an annual concertizing/recruiting trip. Recent destinations include New York City, Niagara Falls, and Toronto. Rehearsals typically include instruction, reading, and practice for performances. S.U. students may earn academic credit for particiaption in the Woodwind Chamber Ensembles.
