National magazine ranks Shippensburg among the best in region
U.S. News & World Report again ranks Shippensburg University among the top universities in the North in its book “America's Best Colleges 2009.” In the annual rankings, Shippensburg is tied for 58th among all institutions in the North region.

University to participate in statewide poll
Shippensburg University is one of four universities in Pennsylvania that will host a statewide poll on the issue of marriage in America.

University expands scholarships for valedictorians
Shippensburg University is expanding its Valedictorian Board of Governors Scholarship so talented students in 10 Southcentral Pennsylvania counties now have another reason to make the smart choice to attend Shippensburg. The scholarship is now available to valedictorians in the 11 high schools in Fulton, Huntington, Juniata, and Mifflin counties.

National group certifies financial planning curriculum
The Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards has again certified the curriculum in the university’s financial planning program for the current academic year.

GIS courses allow students to lead the way into the future
New courses in geographic information systems (GIS) at Shippensburg University are teaching students how to use GIS to lead the country into the future.

Trustees approve contribution to Shippensburg fire companies
Shippensburg University’s Council of Trustees Sept. 5 approved a contribution of $4,000 to each of the three Shippensburg fire companies.

Students to present information on election issues in series beginning Sept. 11
Students in the Shippensburg University Honors Program will present information on various issues that may be relevant during the upcoming presidential election as part of a four-part series to begin Sept. 11.

Library to host Constitution Day observance Sept. 17
The staff and faculty of Ezra Lehman Memorial Library at Shippensburg University are hosting several events as part of observance of Constitution Day Sept. 17. The events are open to the public.

University to host open houses for prospective students beginning Sept. 20
The Admissions Office will host three open houses this fall for prospective students and their parents to visit campus, meet and talk with faculty, staff associates and current students, and learn about financial aid. The programs are Sept. 20, Oct. 18 and Dec. 6.

University sets annual Day of Human Understanding Sept. 23
Shippensburg University will host its annual Day of Human Understanding Sept 23 to help students gain a greater perception of individual differences and understand why it is important to accept these experiences. The day features a discussion at 7 pm. in Memorial Auditorium on immigration by guest speakers Dan Stein and Enrique Morones.

Planetarium show to feature "Summer vs. Winter" Sept. 23
Dibert Planetarium will host the program “Summer vs. Winter” at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 23. The planetarium is in Franklin Science Center.

Debate on immigration draws large crowd
The topic of immigration is emotional and controversial and debatable, as more than 600 individuals filled Memorial Auditorium to hear the topic discussed by two individuals with differing opinions on the subject.

Student completes first-ever NASA internship
When people think about NASA, outer space, rockets, astronauts and the moon normally come to mind, but for James Heiss it meant an internship at NASA’s Wallops Island facility using computer programs to anticipate and solve problems.

Student uses Indonesian high school for communications project
When Shippensburg University student Pia Silverlieb wanted information for a research project she was working on for class, she knew right where to look — Indonesia.

President Ruud presents checks to fire companies
Shippensburg University President William N. Ruud presented checks Sept. 24 to representatives of the three Shippensburg fire companies.

National speaker/author to be on campus Oct. 15
Dr. Steve Robbins, a nationally known speaker and author, will present two programs at Shippensburg University Oct. 15. He will speak from 10 a.m. to noon and from 2 to 3: 30 p.m., both in Memorial Auditorium. The public invited to attend either program.
